Suffixes to make nouns



Suffixes can be added to make different nouns. According to the definition give in Oxford English dictionary suffix (n) is a letter or letters added at the end off a word to form another word.  

1.       Y – beauty, modesty, ability comedy …

2.       Ity- personality, simplicity, purity…

3.       ion – opinion, education, television, preposition …   

4.       er/or – actor, director, carpenter, teacher, author, doctor…

5.       ess- goddess, directress, actress …

6.       dom – kingdom, wisdom, boredom …

7.       hood – childhood, boyhood, manhood, adulthood…

8.       ship- friendship, leadership…
